Review: Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation

Hello ladies!

As some of you are probably aware, I was sent 3 samples of the Illamasqua Skin Base foundation in SB04, SB06 and SB07. I featured the SB06 in my June Favourites (Link!) and the SB07 in my 5 minute face (Link!) After trying the two shades out and alternating between them i felt that SB07 was correct for my skin tone and went off to buy the full size bottle.

What Illamasqua Say:
'Inspired by the cult Asian market Beauty Balm creams, Skin Base Foundation is a brand new, refined formula unlike anything on the UK market. Easily blendable, it effortlessly creates a perfect complexion, and like the entire Illamasqua foundation range, is undetectable in a professional HD environment. Suitable for all skin types, it smoothes, softens and conditions your skin whilst providing natural, buildable coverage.'
♥ Packaging ♥
The foundation packaging is extremely sturdy and comes in a hard plastic squeezy tube with a screw on black lid that has the illamasqua logo etched on top.

♥ Price ♥
The price of this foundation is £25 for 30ml which i think is a pretty average price to pay for a higher end foundation. A foundation from MAC would cost a little bit less with foundations from NARS and Chanel costing more so this is pretty mid range price wise.

♥ Application ♥
I apply the Skin Base straight onto my Sigma F80 Flat Top Kabuki, dab it onto my cheeks, forehead, chin and nose, stipple it all over and then buff in. It is quite a thick consistency and you have to work extremely quickly with this foundation as i find that it drys really fast. I use concealer over the top and then a dusting of MAC Mineralize Skinfinish natural.

♥ Shade Range ♥
The Illamasqua Skin Base foundation is available in 18 different shades. The lightest shade is white and the darkest is deep dark so I'm sure you would find one colour that would match your skin tone. I am a NC15/20 in MAC and thought i would need SB02 as i am usually the lightest shade in most brand foundations, but found with a little colour i need SB07 in the skin base. SB07 has pink undertones however i find it quite a good match for my skin.
♥ Coverage ♥
I feel that this provides a really good medium-high coverage, however it doesnt feel mask like on the skin like other high coverage foundations can do. I find that it gives quite a dewy finish and not too matte which is what i like. Even though i have quite oily-combination skin i didnt find that i looked too shiny with the foundation on, however after a few hours i find that it does start to wear off around my nose and my t-zone gets a little shiny but nothing a dusting of powder doesn't sort out.
This foundation doesnt contain SPF which is always something to think about as you would have to apply seperately, however it does mean that it photographs well and doesnt leave your face looking washed out in photos.

♥ Overall ♥
I really like this foundation, I wouldnt have spent £25 on a full size bottle after sampling a few shades if i didnt. I love that it doesnt contain SPF (which is always a bonus on nights out when everyone has their cameras flashing!) and that it provides high coverage that doesnt look or feel too over the top on the skin. I wouldnt give it holy grail foundation status just yet as i am still a little bit in love with my NARS sheer glow but i will keep on using this for now.

I would definitely suggest trying to get your hands on a sample if you can do and trying before buying as i know that this foundation has had its fair share of reviews both good and bad and what works for me may not work for you.

The Illamasqua Skin Base foundation can be purchased from Illamasqua.com and Illamasqua counters.

I hope you found this useful!

Have you tried this foundation? What are your thoughts?

xxx
